1. A method of stimulating ventilatory and/or respiratory drive in a subject in need thereof, the method comprising:
administering to the subject a therapeutically effective amount of a composition comprising a glutathione alkyl ester, adduct thereof, or pharmaceutically acceptable salt, tautomer, or solvate thereof, wherein the adduct of the glutathione alkyl ester is at least one of an albumin adduct, a glucose adduct, an L-cysteine adduct, a D-cysteine adduct, and an S-nitroso adduct.
