1. A system, comprising: a plurality of network computers for different vehicle operations communicatively coupled to a gateway computer and one another via a local network in a vehicle, wherein each of the plurality of network computers comprise: one or more processors; and memory storing first instructions executable by the one or more processors, the first instructions comprising instructions to: receive, via the local network, a security message from the gateway computer that identifies a current vehicle state; receive a data message; and based on the current vehicle state, determine whether to accept the data message; accept the data message upon determining that the type is a specified diagnostic type and the vehicle state includes a grace period state, the grace period state being a state in which the vehicle is in motion and specified data messages are permitted to pass from a diagnostic port through a gateway computer to the respective network computers that would otherwise be precluded for the current vehicle state.
