1. A system comprising:
a memory device; and
a processing device configured to process an initial set of command types, the processing device, operatively coupled with the memory device, configured to perform operations comprising:
verifying, using an asymmetric cryptographic algorithm, a digital signature associated with a command extension module based on a combination of a public key and private key;
based on verifying the digital signature, installing the command extension module on the system, the command extension module enabling processing of a new command type that is not included in the initial set of command types, the command extension module comprising a time to live (TTL) value; and
processing, by the command extension module, received commands of the new command type until expiration of the TTL value or reboot of the system.
