1. At least one non-transitory, computer-readable storage medium carrying instructions, which, when executed by at least one data processor of a system, cause the system to:
receive, at a mobile device, a wireless emergency alert message comprising alert data;
display, at a user interface of the mobile device, a transcribed portion of the alert data;
issue, at the mobile device and based on a first factor, an audible alert signal corresponding to the received wireless emergency alert message,
wherein the audible alert signal is issued with an attribute, and
wherein the attribute of the audible alert signal is based on the first factor comprising one or more of:
a type of the wireless emergency alert message, a severity level of the wireless emergency alert message, a type of the mobile device, a location of the mobile device, or prior behavior of a user of the mobile device;
compute a threshold period of time based on the first factor,
wherein the attribute for the audible alert signal is based on the first factor; and
when an acknowledgement to the audible alert signal is not received from the user within the threshold period of time or when an alert text-to-speech feature is enabled, output, at the mobile device, an audio message corresponding to at least a second portion of the alert data.
