1. An electronic gaming device operable to meet a designated triggering rate of a feature game, the electronic gaming device comprising:
a display having a plurality of symbol positions; and
a controller comprising a processor and a memory storing (i) a plurality of reel strips comprising a set of symbols including a plurality of trigger symbols, (ii) data indicative of a threshold number, and (iii) instructions which, when executed, cause the processor to:
for a first game instance, control the plurality of symbol positions to display a plurality of symbols selected from the set of symbols for each of the reel strips based on a random number generated by a random number generator,
responsive to the plurality of symbols in the first game instance including a number of trigger symbols having reached the threshold number, control the display to animate at least one triggered symbol displayed at a first symbol position being moved to a different symbol position of the plurality of symbol positions causing the feature game to initiate, the feature game comprising at least a second game instance,
responsive to the plurality of symbols in the first game instance including a number of trigger symbols less than the threshold number, control the display to initiate the feature game randomly determined based on a second random number generated by the random number generator to meet the designated triggering rate of the feature game,
control the display to animate the feature game initiated, and
control the display to animate any award resulting from the feature game.
