1. A computer-assisted method of mitigating risk of digitally distributed fake news, the method comprising:
storing, via at least one processor, an original digital work associated with an original news story in a non-transitory computer readable memory;
generating, via the at least one processor, a digital authentication token through execution of an implementation of at least one deterministic function on at least a portion of the original digital work and on digital identifying information associated with a publisher of the original news story and the original digital work;
publishing, via the at least one processor, the original digital work and the digital authentication token as a token/work pair, wherein the digital authentication token comprises an embedded link that points to the publisher of the original news story; and
enabling, via the at least one processor, validation processing that includes generating a validation score representing a validation of a suspect news story based on deterministic features derived from the digital authentication token and from at least a portion of the suspect news story, wherein the at least one deterministic function performs at least one of a pixel-to-pixel comparison, a descriptor comparison, and an optical character recognition comparison with the at least a portion of the original digital work, and wherein the deterministic features comprise a combination of outputs from at least two of the pixel-to-pixel comparison, the descriptor comparison, and the optical character recognition comparison.
