1. A non-transitory computer readable medium comprising executable code, that when executed by one or more processors, causes the one or more processors to:
receive, at a credential reader device transmitted from a credential device of a user, at least one of a first image of the user or a first representation of a face of the user, the at least one of the first image and first representation each being embedded with at least one of an encrypted key or a digital watermark;
if the first image is received, at least one of verify the corresponding embedded encrypted key or verify the digital watermark of the first image to obtain a verified image, and generate, by the credential reader device, a generated representation of a face of the user using the verified image;
if the first representation is received, at least one of verify the corresponding embedded encrypted key or verify the digital watermark of the first representation to obtain a verified representation;
capture, at the credential reader device, a second image of the user and generating a second representation of the face of the user using the second image;
determine a likelihood of a match between the second representation and at least one of the generated representation and the verified representation; and
permit access by the user to a secure asset in instances where the likelihood of a match meets a threshold.
