1. A device for controlling a fluid jet machine during cleaning of equipment, said device comprising:
a communication device of a size suitable to be held in a hand or both hands of a human operator when the human operator is in a vicinity of a fluid jet machine;
software provided in or to the communication device for controlling the fluid jet machine and performing an operation with the fluid jet machine;
a user interface provided on the communication device and a plurality of selectable options provided on the user interface, wherein at least one of the plurality of selectable options corresponds to a function to be performed by a component of the fluid jet machine;
wherein the software includes programming to learn a pattern of a plurality of spaced apart openings in a face plate of the equipment to be cleaned with the fluid jet machine;
wherein the software includes programming to move a lance of an indexer of the fluid jet machine from one of the plurality of spaced apart openings in the pattern to another of the plurality of spaced apart openings and to selectively align a nozzle of the lance therewith.
