1. A method comprising:
outputting image light in each of a respective component color via a plurality of monochrome nanowire micro-LED displays arranged to face different sides of a polyhedral prism of a head-mounted display system;
receiving the image light of each component color from the plurality of monochrome nanowire micro-LED displays and directing, via the polyhedral prism, each component color of the image light toward an eyepiece of the head-mounted display system in a different direction from an output side of the polyhedral prism; and
receiving, via the eyepiece, the image light from each of the monochrome nanowire micro-LED displays and directing the image light to an eye of a user.
