1. A method of detecting water within a pit of an elevator shaft, the method comprising:
detecting water within a pit of an elevator shaft using a water sensor;
wirelessly transmitting a notification to a controller;
transmitting the notification to a computing device;
wherein the water sensor is configured to send a periodic heartbeat signal to the controller in response to water not being detected within the pit; and
wherein the periodic heartbeat signal comprises water detection status and battery voltage.
