               1. A medium conveying apparatus comprising: 
            a conveying roller to convey a medium; 
                an overlap detection sensor to detect an overlap on the medium conveyed by the conveying roller; 
                a processor to 
                calculate an overlap length over which the overlap is continuous, based on outputs of the overlap detection sensor, 
                  determine whether a multi-feed has occurred based on the overlap length, and 
                  execute an abnormal processing when multi-feed is determined to have occurred, wherein 
                the overlap detection sensor detects overlaps at a plurality of positions within the medium, wherein 
                in calculating the overlap length, the processor determines that a first overlap portion and a second overlap portion are continuous when a distance between the first overlap portion and the second overlap portion is within a predetermined distance, wherein the first overlap portion and the second overlap portion are portions where the output of the overlap detection sensor detects overlap, and wherein 
                the predetermined distance is set to a value larger than a distance between adjacent positions among the plurality of positions at which overlap detection is performed.
