1. A surface cleaning apparatus, comprising:
a recovery system comprising a recovery pathway and a suction source;
an upright handle assembly; and
a base operably coupled to the upright handle assembly and adapted for movement across a surface to be cleaned, the base comprising:
an open front;
a cover assembly closing the open front of the base, the cover assembly including a forward wall and a rear wall and having an underside extending from the forward wall to the rear wall, the cover assembly at least partially defining a suction inlet of the recovery pathway, the suction inlet in fluid communication with the suction source, wherein the suction inlet is rearward of the forward wall of the cover assembly;
a chamber defined on the underside of the cover assembly and at least partially defined by the forward wall of the cover assembly and the rear wall of the cover assembly; and
an agitator within the recovery pathway, the agitator at least partially received in the chamber between the forward wall and the rear wall of the cover assembly;
wherein the agitator is rotatable about a rotational axis, the forward wall is spaced from the rotational axis in a first direction from the rotational axis and the rear wall is spaced from the rotational axis in a second direction from the rotational axis; and
wherein the cover assembly is removably mounted on the base and is removable from the base as a unit, with the forward wall and the rear wall configured to be removed at the same time, whereby removal of the cover assembly from the base exposes the open front of the base; and
wherein the agitator remains with the base upon removal of the cover assembly from the base, whereby removal of the cover assembly from the base exposes at least an upper side of the agitator and a front side of the agitator.
