1. An air-conditioning apparatus comprising:
a communication unit configured to receive a radio signal from a portable terminal;
a sensor configured to detect detailed information that includes information indicating presence or absence of a person in a detection target region that is a target region for detection of whether a person is present or not; and
a controller configured to
determine whether the communication unit receives a radio signal having a radio field intensity higher than or equal to a predetermined radio field intensity for triggering sensor operation and whether a detection process by the sensor to detect the detailed information is in a stopped state,
responsive to determining that the radio signal having the radio field intensity is received and that the detection process is in the stopped state, cause the sensor to start the detection process to detect the detailed information and control an air-conditioning operation based on the detailed information detected by the sensor,
after causing the sensor to start the detection process, determine whether the communication unit does not receive a radio signal having a radio field intensity higher than or equal to the predetermined radio field intensity and whether the sensor continuously detects no person in the detection target region,
responsive to determining that the communication unit does not receive the radio signal and that the sensor continuously detects no person, cause the detection process by the sensor to be stopped.
