1. A method of determining if avatar contact interactions are permitted, the method comprising:
receiving avatar contact settings for a local avatar and at least one remote avatar in a world instance;
for a pair of avatars in the world instance, determining whether there is mutual consent between the pair of avatars to allow avatar-to-avatar contact interactions; and
display an indicator associated with the at least one remote avatar indicating an avatar contact interaction status indicating whether the avatar-to-avatar contact interactions are allowed between the local avatar and the at least one remote avatar.
