1. A system comprising:
a temperature probe having a probe type, the temperature probe comprising:
one or more sensors; and
a probe connector comprising one or more conductors connected to the one or more sensors and configured to output one or more sensor signals according to a spatial ground-signal conductor pattern specific to the probe type; and
a cooking appliance comprising:
a processing system configured to determine the probe type, wherein the probe type is determined to be a negative temperature coefficient (NTC) thermistor when a sensor signal is detected at a tip conductor of the one or more conductors; and
a memory configured to store one or more temperature estimates.
