1. A method for synthesizing cobalt oxide nanoparticles, comprising:
mixing an aqueous solution of a cobalt precursor and an aqueous solution of L-valine to obtain a reaction mixture while heating the reaction mixture at a temperature of at least 100° C. to obtain a dry powder; and
calcining the dry powder at a temperature of at least 650° C. to obtain the cobalt oxide nanoparticles,
wherein the cobalt oxide nanoparticles have an average particle size of 200 nm or less, and
wherein the cobalt oxide nanoparticles are substantially spherical and comprise mesopores having a total pore volume of 0.1 to 0.5 cm3/g and an average pore diameter of 8 nm or less.
