1. A natural language understanding system comprising at least one processor configured to automatically carry out a task of human-analogous natural language understanding of natural language content from one or more text documents, the system comprising:
a computer system hosting a natural language understanding engine which creates a machine representation of the meaning of a document using a compositional language model;
the engine creating its machine meaning representation for a document by decomposing the entire document into its compositional structure to reflect multiple layers of meaning, and doing so in an invertible manner;
the engine decomposing the document into its compositional structure by parsing the document according to a discourse model identified for the document, identifying the main idea of the document, and identifying the start of new ideas in the document,
decomposing the document into sub-documents by ideas, and creating meaning representation for the entire document by decomposing the subdocuments into their compositional elements; and
the computing system comprising one or more virtual or dedicated servers or similar computing devices and programmed with executable instructions.
