1. A method comprising:
receiving, via a processor, a first symbol object instance of a plurality of symbol object instances from an industrial automation device, wherein a first template object instance is configured to characterize a dataset stored in a memory component accessible to the industrial automation device via the plurality of symbol object instances, wherein each of the plurality of symbol object instances are categorized via the first template object instance with respect to one or more of a plurality of categories comprising an identity of the industrial automation device, a state of the industrial automation device, a runtime status of the industrial automation device, maintenance status associated with the industrial automation device, sustainability information of the industrial automation device, or any combination thereof, and wherein the plurality of symbol object instances and the first template object instance correspond to an original symbolic definition associated with the industrial automation device;
receiving, via the processor, a first input that comprises an indication of one or more additional categories relative to the original symbolic definition;
identifying, via the processor, a type of the industrial automation device based on the first template object instance associating the first symbol object instance to the identity of the industrial automation device;
generating, via the processor, enhanced template data at least in part by appending the one or more additional categories to the first template object instance, wherein the enhanced template data comprises one or more instantaneous values associated with the dataset and a template object instance comprising indications of one or more of the plurality of categories associated with the plurality of symbol object instances;
sending, via the processor, the enhanced template data to one or more devices configured to associate the dataset with the enhanced template data; and
controlling, via the processor, an operation of the industrial automation device based on the enhanced template data.
