A rotary tube apparatus for cooling or heating flowable granular materials, wherein the apparatus comprises sections, and structures in the form of hollow tubes are arranged in the sections for increasing heat-transferring surface area as well as thermal conduction, the apparatus being subdivided into at least three sections, which sections have a higher density of hollow tubes on radial walls and on a peripheral wall (B, B′, B″) than in corner areas (A, A′, A″) between the radial walls and between the radial walls on the one hand and the peripheral wall on the other hand.
