1. A ventilator, comprising:
a blower including a blower housing having a proximal opening and a distal opening, and a motor arranged within the blower housing between the proximal opening and the distal opening,
wherein the blower is configured to receive air from the proximal opening and provide pressurized air to the distal opening, and
wherein the blower forms a flow path from the proximal opening to the distal opening; and
a valve assembly provided to the blower, the valve assembly configured to allow air to flow through the blower housing along the flow path in a first direction from the proximal opening to the distal opening during an inhalation phase of a patient's breathing cycle and allow air to flow through the blower housing along the flow path in a second direction, opposite to the first direction, from the distal opening to the proximal opening during an exhalation phase of the patient's breathing cycle,
wherein the valve assembly is coupled to the proximal opening of the blower and includes at least one expired air outlet,
wherein the valve assembly includes an inlet valve and an outlet valve that are configured to separate flow traveling in the first direction from flow traveling in the second direction opposite to the first direction,
the blower including a flow sensor system along the flow path of the blower,
wherein the flow sensor system comprises a flow sensor and a flew element,
wherein the flow sensor is in fluid communication with the flow path within the blower, and the flow sensor is configured and arranged to measure flow along the flow path within the blower in both the first and second directions,
wherein the flow element is arranged adjacent to the flow sensor along the flow path within the blower, and
wherein the flow element is provided to the motor within the blower housing and configured to conduct heat from the motor and to warm the adjacent flow sensor so as to at least minimize condensation to enhance flow measurement.
