1. A system comprising:
an interrogator unit operable to generate optical signals and receive interrogation data;
a topside circulator couplable to the interrogator unit and spliceable with a downstream umbilical fiber, the topside circulator having an input operable to receive the interrogation data from an upstream umbilical fiber;
a subsea circulator couplable to the downstream umbilical fiber, the subsea circulator operable to steer backscattered light associated with the interrogation data to the upstream umbilical fiber;
a subsea tree portion positionable on a sea floor location above a wellbore, the subsea tree portion comprising:
a coil of reference fiber positionable at the sea floor location to provide a known temperature and a known strain usable for interpreting the interrogation data, the coil of reference fiber having a first portion and a second portion defining a total length of the coil of reference fiber, wherein a dead zone effect is present in the first portion and the dead zone effect is not present in the total length; and
a sensing fiber of a same type of fiber as the coil of reference fiber and positionable in series with the coil of reference fiber, the sensing fiber positionable to generate the interrogation data.
