1. A method for electrochemical oxidation of methanol, the method comprising:
applying a voltage to a solution comprising methanol in an electrochemical cell comprising a saturated Ag/AgCl reference electrode, a counter electrode and a working electrode at least partially coated with a catalyst composition comprising phosphorus-doped Ag2WO4 nanoparticles, wherein the amount of phosphorus present in the phosphorus-doped Ag2WO4 nanoparticles is in a range from 5 to 30% of the total weight of the phosphorus-doped Ag2WO4 nanoparticles,
wherein a current density during the applying is greater than 5 mA·cm−2 at an applied voltage of 0.58 V against the saturated Ag/AgCl reference electrode,
wherein during the applying the methanol is oxidized to form carbon dioxide and hydrogen.
