1. An electric machine controller for controlling pulsing of an electric machine onboard a vehicle having a drivetrain that includes a multi-speed gearbox and the electric machine, the electric machine controller being configured to:
determine a pulsing frequency for pulsed operation of the electric machine to deliver a desired torque, wherein the pulsing frequency is determined based at least in part on a current operational gear of the gearbox; and
direct pulsed operation of the electric machine at the determined pulsing frequency to deliver the desired torque.
