1. A method comprising:
computing a depth quality sensitivity measure for each coding block in a multi-view frame based on a depth map for the multi-view frame;
computing a depth-based perceptual quantization scale for each coding block by at least:
selecting a first quantization scale for a first coding block having a first depth quality sensitivity measure, wherein the first quantization scale is coarser than a base quantization step size; and
selecting a second quantization scale for a second coding block having a second depth quality sensitivity measure, wherein the second depth quality sensitivity measure is higher than the first depth quality sensitivity measure, and wherein the second quantization scale is finer than the base quantization step size;
encoding the first coding block using the first quantization scale; and
encoding the second coding block using the second quantization scale.
