1. A computing system comprising:
a network interface for communicating over at least one data network;
at least one processor;
at least one non-transitory computer-readable medium; and
program instructions stored on the at least one non-transitory computer-readable medium that are executable by the at least one processor such that the computing system is configured to:
receive, from an upstream computing system, a message comprising data content that is related to a distributed financial transaction that spans at least the upstream computing system, the computing system, and a downstream computing system, the message comprising a global context identifier that identifies the distributed financial transaction;
after receiving the message, (i) generate at least one file comprising the data content that is related to the distributed financial transaction, wherein the at least one file does not include the global context identifier, and (ii) store the at least one file at the computing system,
decide to execute, as part of the distributed financial transaction, a file transfer of the at least one file from the computing system to the downstream computing system;
extract, from the message, the global context identifier;
before the file transfer is executed, generate a data element that comprises the global context identifier for association with the file transfer;
associate the at least one file with the data element such that the data element is isolated from the data content; and
execute the file transfer by transmitting the at least one file and the associated data element for receipt by the downstream computing system.
