1. A method for manufacturing a type IV pressure vessel for containing liquids and/or gases under pressure, said method comprising:
providing a polymer liner having a tubular portion wherein said tubular portion includes a corrugated section having circumferential corrugations providing alternating ridges and grooves arranged from one end to an opposing end of said corrugated section, each of said circumferential corrugations comprising a first ridge section, a first side wall extending between said first ridge section and a first groove section, and a second side wall opposing said first side wall and extending between said first groove section and a second ridge section, wherein air volume between said first side wall, said first groove section, and said second side wall defines an annular cavity on an outer surface of said corrugated section;
applying a barrier to said outer surface of said corrugated section from said one end to said opposing end of said corrugated section and extending around said corrugated section circumference such that air voids are formed in said annular cavities between said liner and said barrier; and
applying fiber and resin to an outer surface of said barrier wherein said barrier prevents intrusion of said resin between said barrier and said liner in said corrugated section;
curing said resin; and
pressurizing said polymer liner;
wherein upon pressurization, said polymer liner expands and said annular cavities are collapsed by said expanding polymer liner such that the distance between said opposing first and second side walls decreases as pressure is applied to said polymer liner.
