1. A method comprising:
receiving sensor data generated by a sensor of a tracking device, the sensor being incorporated into the tracking device;
generating, by the tracking device, a beacon signal for transmission indicating (1) a device identifier of a tracking device and (2) sensor data generated by the sensor;
determining when to transmit the beacon signal based on an amount of energy stored by a storage device of the tracking device;
determining whether a sufficient amount of energy has been harvested from an energizing signal received at a first antenna of the tracking device;
based on the determination of whether the sufficient amount of energy has been harvested from the energizing signal, selecting a mode of operation from a plurality of modes of operation for the tracking device, wherein a first mode of operation of the plurality of modes of operation corresponds to using a second antenna for sending the beacon signal and a second mode of the plurality of modes of operation corresponds to using a third antenna for sending the beacon signal, wherein each of the second antenna and the third antenna are configured for sending signals at different frequencies; and
based on the determination of when to transmit the beacon signal, transmitting, by the tracking device, the beacon signal from the tracking device according to the selected mode of operation.
