1. A slide, comprising:
(a) a detection area for application of a sample comprising a tissue section or loose cells for staining and subsequent examination; and
(b) a control area comprising one or more targets, each of the one or more targets is reactive to a single stain,
wherein the control area further comprises imaging reference loading dots directly on the slide, and the imaging reference loading dots comprise a black reference target and a white reference target.
