1. An x-ray based litho-density tool comprising:
an output exit;
an x-ray source that is offset from the output exit in an axial direction, the x-ray source to generate radiant energy that illuminates a formation surrounding a borehole via the output exit;
a source monitoring detector that is offset from the output exit in the axial direction and positioned between the x-ray source and the output exit; and
a radiation detector to generate data indicative of a density of the formation using the radiant energy, the radiation detector offset from the output exit in the axial direction and positioned between the x-ray source and the source monitoring detector.
