1. A method comprising:
determining a power requirement for a vehicle system to complete a planned trip, the vehicle system including multiple power sources configured to power propulsion of the vehicle system along one or more routes of the planned trip, the power requirement representing a set of instantaneous power outputs of the vehicle system as a function of a set of times, a set of distances, or a set of locations during the planned trip;
determining an amount of available power from the multiple power sources of the vehicle system, the amount of available power representing a set of instantaneous power inputs as the function of the set of times, the set of distances, or the set of locations during the planned trip, wherein each instantaneous power input of the set corresponds to a cumulative power available from the multiple power sources for powering propulsion;
determining a shortfall representing a portion of the set of times, the set of distances, or the set of locations in which the amount of available power is less than the power requirement; and
eliminating the shortfall by modifying the planned trip, wherein modifying the planned trip comprises one or more of changing a vehicular makeup of the vehicle system or changing one or more operational aspects of the planned trip.
