1. A method for power saving mode cycles of a Third Generation Partnership Project (3GPP) user equipment (UE) device, the method comprising:
setting, by a processing system including a processor, a power saving mode (PSM) of the 3GPP UE device to off;
when the PSM is off and an extended discontinuous reception (eDRX) mode is on and set to a duration, performing, by the processing system, an attachment procedure or a tracking area update;
detecting, by the processing system, that the duration of the eDRX mode has expired or reception of a duration of a paging time window;
setting, by the processing system, the PSM to on, wherein the setting the PSM to on is based on the detecting that the duration of the eDRX mode has expired or reception of data end, and wherein the PSM has a PSM timer when the PSM is on; and
setting, by the processing system, the PSM to off at a time before the PSM timer expires.
