1. A method, comprising:
configuring at least one node of a wireless network as an intermediate node;
periodically switching the intermediate node, which transmits beacons, to a leaf node which does not transmit beacons and is unable to detect leaf nodes seeking an intermediate node to communicate with, when no communications are detected with the at least one node after a predetermined time period; and
periodically switching the leaf node back to the intermediate node to detect whether leaf nodes seeking an intermediate node to communicate with are present in the wireless network.
