1. A computing system for selecting at least one icebreaker people highlight, with respect to a person in a target group, to be shown on at least one user device, comprising:
at least one processor; and
computer storage memory having computer-executable instructions stored thereon which, when executed by the at least one processor, implement a method for selecting a people highlight to be shown on the at least one user device, the method comprising:
determining a target group of users participating in a web-based communication session,
programmatically determining a reference group of users related to the target group, each user in the target group and the reference group being represented as a data structure including feature-value relationships represented as feature-value pairs;
programmatically determining, based on a comparison of the data structure corresponding to each user in the target group, at least one feature value in common among the target group of users thereby forming a set of common target group feature values;
for each feature value in the set of common target group feature values, determining a frequency of the feature value with respect to the feature-value pairs for the users in the reference group;
based upon the frequency of each feature value in the set of common target group feature values, determining a set of rare feature values shared among the target group of users that are uncommon among users in the reference group;
selecting a pseudo-randomly chosen feature value from among the set of rare feature values; and
presenting, by a communication application, the pseudo-randomly chosen feature value as an icebreaker people highlight on a user interface facilitating the web-based communication session.
