1. A computer-implemented method comprising:
obtaining, by a computing system, initial distribution criteria used to place content;
determining that the initial distribution criteria used to place the content is to be expanded; and
in response to determining that the initial distribution criteria used to place the content is to be expanded,
identifying multiple sets of similar distribution criteria that have been classified as being similar to the initial distribution criteria,
identifying, for each set of similar distribution criteria, a quality metric indicating a performance of the set of similar distribution criteria when the set of similar distribution criteria has been used to place other content different from the content, the other content being in a content group with the content,
selecting, from the sets of similar distribution criteria and based on the quality metric for each set of similar distribution criteria, one or more sets of similar distribution criteria, and
generating expanded distribution criteria by expanding the initial distribution criteria used to place the content to include the initial distribution criteria and the one or more sets of similar distribution criteria.
