1. A display device comprising:
a display panel including a display portion and a non-display portion surrounding the display portion;
an illumination device; and
a color separation element provided between the display panel and the illumination device,
wherein the color separation element separates illumination light from the illumination device into light of a plurality of colors,
the color separation element is a diffraction element having an uneven shape, and
a first opening and a second opening are formed in the non-display portion of the display panel, overlap the color separation element, and are aligned in a first direction.
