1. A method for operating an internal combustion engine with a high pressure accumulator for a fuel injection system, the method comprising the steps of:
monitoring, by a control unit, in a time-dependent manner, a high pressure in the fuel injection system;
conducting, by the control unit, a check, at a high pressure-dependent starting time point, as to whether a continuous injection detection is to be carried out, the high pressure-dependent starting time point being a starting time, the starting time being when the continuous injection detection occurs if the continuous injection detection is to be carried out,
wherein the check includes checking, by the control unit, whether a high-pressure oscillation has occurred within a predetermined oscillation time interval prior to the starting time such that the starting time is a same time as an end time point of the predetermined oscillation time interval and such that the high-pressure oscillation includes the high pressure passing through—from below and thereby exceeding—a predetermined oscillation limit value that is below a high pressure target value, subsequently exceeding the high pressure target value, and subsequently dropping to a predetermined oscillation end value that is below the high pressure target value and that correlates with the end time point, and thereby the high pressure of the high-pressure oscillation passes upwardly through a band located below the high pressure target value within the predetermined oscillation time interval, the band having a predetermined width that is an oscillation differential pressure amount.
