1. A setting tool for driving fastening elements into a substrate comprising a holder for holding a fastening element; a drive-in element for transferring a fastening element held in the holder into the substrate along a setting axis; a drive for driving the drive-in element toward the fastening element along the setting axis; and, a control unit configured to be operated in a normal mode and in a backup mode, wherein the drive comprises an electrical capacitor; and, an excitation coil, wherein the control unit is configured to carry out a rapid discharge of the capacitor in the normal mode to provide current that flows through the excitation coil to generate a magnetic field that accelerates the drive-in element toward the fastening element, and wherein the control unit is configured to carry out a fuse discharge of the capacitor in the backup mode to provide current that does not flow through the excitation coil, and wherein the control unit is configured to go into the backup mode upon detecting that the temperature of the surrounding area and/or of the setting tool exceeds a predetermined temperature.
