1. A large volume device comprising:
a device housing comprising a needle aperture;
a needle for injecting a medicament, the needle arranged to pass through the needle aperture;
a plurality of sensors configured to provide a signal when the device housing is placed on skin of a patient, wherein the plurality of sensors are arranged around the needle aperture; and
a retractable needle shield which is disposed around the needle aperture;
wherein the needle shield is locked in a first position in which the needle shield is retracted within the device housing prior to the device housing being placed on the skin of the patient, and is configured to extend to a second position to surround the needle;
wherein the needle shield is configured to be unlocked to move from the first position to the second position conditional on the signal provided by the plurality of sensors when the device housing is placed on the skin of the patient; and
wherein the large volume device is configured such that the device housing of the large volume device is placeable on and attachable to the skin of the patient to allow the needle to inject the medicament during a medicament administration process and further configured to deliver a volume of the medicament of at least two milliliters during the medicament administration process.
