10. A method comprising:
providing an extracorporeal blood filtering machine that comprises:
a blood circuit that includes:
a blood line comprising a blood inlet and a blood outlet,
a filter fluidly connected to the blood line between the blood inlet and the blood outlet, and
a blood pump;
an effluent circuit that includes:
an effluent line fluidly connected to the filter, and
an effluent pump; and
a source fluid circuit that includes:
a single source fluid line fluidly connected to a source fluid reservoir at a first end of the single source fluid line, and
a source fluid pump;
determining whether to connect the single source fluid line to the blood circuit;
if a determination is made to connect the single source fluid line to the blood circuit,
(a) selecting a connection position in the blood circuit from among (i) the filter, (ii) between the blood inlet and the filter, and (iii) between the filter and the blood outlet, and
(b) removably connecting a second end of the single source fluid line to the selected connection position in the blood circuit;
receiving a pressure measurement from a location in the blood line;
comparing the pressure measurement with an expected pressure value for the location associated with the second end of the single source fluid line being connected to the selected connection position to ensure that the single source fluid line is connected to the selected connection position rather than to a different position;
operating the blood pump to pump blood from the blood inlet, through the blood line and the filter, and to the blood outlet, the filter removing waste from the blood and providing the waste to the effluent line in the form of effluent;
operating the effluent pump to pump the effluent from the filter through the effluent line into an effluent receptacle; and
if the second end of the single source fluid line is removably connected to the selected connection position in the blood circuit, operating the source fluid pump to pump source fluid from the source fluid reservoir through the single source fluid line into the blood circuit.
