1. A cooling system comprising:
a cooling device configured to non-invasively remove heat from subcutaneous lipid-rich cells of a subject to substantially affect the lipid-rich cells while non-lipid-rich cells in the subject's epidermis are not substantially affected, the cooling device including
a first cooling element having a first cooling surface and a first sensing device overlaying the first cooling surface, and
a second cooling element hingedly connected to the first cooling element, the second cooling element having a second cooling surface and a second sensing device overlaying the second cooling surface; and
wherein the cooling device is configured to be in communication with a processing unit programmed to
control operation of the first cooling element based on first sensor readings from the first sensing device, and
control operation of the second cooling element based on second sensor readings from the second sensing device.
