18. A method for controlling a surgical stapler that includes an end effector with a second jaw that is movable relative to a first jaw of the end effector between an open position and a closed position and a firing member that is movable between a starting position and an ending position within the end effector, wherein said method comprises:
installing a surgical staple cartridge in the first jaw of the end effector, wherein the surgical staple cartridge comprises:
a cartridge body;
a plurality of surgical staples stored in the cartridge body; and
a camming assembly configured to eject the surgical staples from the cartridge body, wherein the camming assembly comprises a tissue cutting member movable between a deployed position and a stored position, and wherein said method further comprises:
moving the second jaw into the closed position;
distally advancing the firing member from the starting position into latching engagement with the tissue cutting member to retain the tissue cutting member in the deployed position;
driving the firing member and the camming assembly toward the ending position;
stopping the firing member in an intermediate position prior to reaching the ending position;
de-latching the tissue cutting member from the firing member when the firing member is in the intermediate position; and
returning the firing member from the intermediate position to the starting position.
