1. An apparatus comprising:
(a) a hand vacuum cleaner comprising:
(i) an air flow path extending from a dirty air inlet to a clean air outlet;
(ii) a main body comprising an upper end, a lower end, a front end, a rear end and a main body axis that extends between the front and rear ends, the main body housing a suction motor and fan assembly, the suction motor and fan assembly having a suction motor axis of rotation; and,
(iii) an air treatment assembly positioned in the air flow path, the air treatment assembly having a dirt collection region which has an openable door, the openable door is moveable from a closed vacuuming position to an open dirty emptying position; and,
(b) a floor standing unit having a dirt collection chamber and a dirt inlet port,
wherein the hand vacuum cleaner is dockable with the floor standing unit and, when the hand vacuum cleaner is docked with the floor standing unit and the openable door is opened, dirt collected in the dirt collection region is transferrable to the dirt collection chamber of the floor standing unit, and
wherein the hand vacuum cleaner further comprises a pistol grip handle and an inlet conduit extending from the dirty air inlet to an air treatment chamber of the air treatment assembly and, when the inlet conduit is oriented horizontally and the pistol grip handle extends upwardly and forwardly, the openable door is located below the inlet conduit.
