1. A method of sending a data file with medical data pertaining to a patient, comprising one or more of medical images, medical test results, numerical data on vital signs, text-based medical data, and sequencing data, from one or more external devices to a computer system, wherein each of the external devices comprises a device identifier, and storing the data file associated with an identity of the patient, wherein the medical data comprises data of the patient taken with a medical instrument and communicated to the external device, wherein the medical data comprises one or more of pulse data, blood pressure data, EKG data, electrical impedance data, magnetic field data, blood analysis data, spectroscopic data of body tissue, auditory data of the heart, auditory data of the lungs, NMR data, and DNA sequence data, the method comprising:
a) registering the one or more external devices to the computer system prior to acquiring the medical data from the external devices;
b) selecting, at the computer system, at least two of the external devices to be used to acquire the medical data, wherein the selecting causes the computer system to send the selected at least two external devices a request to send the medical data to the computer system as the data file;
c) recording, by the computer system in response to the selecting, an instruction, prior to the data file being sent to the computer system, the instruction including information that the selected at least two external devices will send the medical data pertaining to the patient and a location of where the medical data will be sent;
d) receiving a first data file from a first of the selected at least two external devices and identifying the data file as coming from the first of the selected at least two external devices;
e) receiving a second data file from a second of the selected at least two external devices and identifying the data file as coming from the second of the selected at least two external devices, wherein the second data file is received within a predetermined time interval from receiving the first data file;
f) sending an alert to a user to verify which one of the first data file or the second data file should be associated with the patient;
g) associating the identity of the patient with the one of the first data file or the second data file based on at least the identifying of the one of the first data file or the second data file as coming from the selected at least two external devices, the recorded instruction and an input from the user; and
h) storing, by the computer system, the one of the first data file or the second data file associated with the identity of the patient, in a data storage device.
