1. A method of operating a user equipment (UE) in a wireless network, comprising:
receiving, from a network node, a command to activate a secondary cell of the wireless network for wireless communication;
determining whether timing information is known by the UE for the secondary cell;
performing a first secondary cell activation within a first time period based on the timing information being known, the performing including reducing a time for automatic gain control (AGC) based on a multimedia broadcast service single frequency network (MBSFN) not being supported by a current capability of the UE;
performing a second secondary cell activation within a second time period based on the timing information being unknown; and
wirelessly communicating over the wireless network using the secondary cell, based on the secondary cell being activated.
