1. A computer-implemented method for noting a source of a topology change notification, the method comprising:
responsive to an information handling system in a network experiencing an event that triggers a topology change notification (TCN):
generating a specialized message that comprises:
an indicator that this message is a specialized message;
a media access control (MAC) identifier in a MAC field that identifies the information handling system as a source of the specialized message; and
a unique identifier in a unique identifier field that comprises at least a timestamp of when the specialized message was generated; and
transmitting the specialized message to at least one information handling system in the network.
