1. A method for cleaning a surface of a motor vehicle, the motor vehicle comprising a sensor operatively connected to the surface, and wherein the method comprises:
receiving sensor data from the sensor;
accessing data from a dependency table for a cleaning system of the motor vehicle,
wherein the dependency table;
includes data sets that each have an input quantity of the cleaning system and an output quantity of the cleaning system that is dependent on the input quantity and,
includes data sets associated with at least one control quantity of a cleaning process performed by the cleaning system, an availability of the sensor at a start time of the cleaning process and an availability of the sensor at an end time of the cleaning process;
determining a resource requirement of the cleaning process describing resources used for the method, wherein the resource requirement depends on the at least one control quantity;
deriving a difference between the availability of the sensor at an end time of the cleaning process and the availability of the sensor at a start time of the cleaning process for each data set of the dependency table;
deriving a ratio of the difference to the respective resource requirement for each data set of the dependency table;
determining a control quantity from the at least one control quantity of the dependency table based at least in part on the ratio; and
controlling the cleaning system of the motor vehicle using the control quantity.
