1. At a vehicle, a method comprising:
driving the vehicle to a customer location with an empty vehicle storage compartment so that a customer at the customer location can return an object to a store or warehouse;
detecting an event purported to alter the content of the compartment at the vehicle, wherein detecting an event purported to alter the content of the compartment at the vehicle comprises detecting that the object has been placed in and left in the compartment by the customer;
monitoring, with a camera, the compartment for disturbances relative to a background image permeated on an interior surface of the compartment after the event, wherein the background image includes a principal feature or a pattern separate from a footprint of the compartment, and wherein the principal feature or the pattern comprises a screen image having a plurality of thru-holes, the screen image being provided on a localized region of the compartment;
determining if the content of the compartment accords with a defined event outcome based on any monitored disturbances;
driving the vehicle to the store or warehouse so that the object can be returned; and
removing the object from the compartment at the store or warehouse.
