18. A package tracking system, comprising:
one or more optical sensors positioned to capture images of a package-holding area to confirm a package at the package-holding area intended for receipt by one or more package recipients;
a storage device in communication with the one or more optical sensors to store the captured images and to further store a record including a recorded history of the package, and combine the captured images to enhance the recorded history of the package;
a notification system that notifies a computing device of a recipient about the delivery of the package at the package-holding area;
a computing system in communication with the one or more optical sensors to receive the captured images and with the storage device to store the captured images, the computing system including a processor, memory, and executable code stored on the memory;
the processor further executing the executable code to detect motion corresponding to an object appearing in the images at a location where the package is delivered within a field of view of the one or more optical sensors based on the images received therefrom, and to add data related to the image to the record; and
a light source that illuminates that package ready for pickup corresponding with the field of view of the one or more optical sensors to aid with the intended receipt by the one or more package recipients, wherein the one or more optical sensors performs an electronic scan of the package external or internal to the package-holding area to obtain the package identification information, and wherein the obtained package identification information is processed with the captured images of the package-holding area to determine that a given package scanned external to the package-holding area corresponds to a package placed at a location in the package-holding area.
