1. A system for item deposit verification comprising:
an item receptacle;
a scanning device configured to:
scan an item locked within the item receptacle, and
generate first item information based on scanning the item;
a processor in communication with the scanning device, the processor configured to receive the item information; and
a communication device in communication with a database, the database storing second item information relevant to the item scanned;
wherein the processor is configured to:
receive the second item information from the database,
compare the second item information from the database with the first item information received from the scanning device,
determine whether the item should be accepted based on the comparison, and
cause the item receptacle to remain locked if it is determined that the item should be accepted, or cause the item receptacle to unlock if it is determined that the item should not be accepted.
