1. An optical sensor for a mouse moveable on a surface, comprising:
a printed circuit board (PCB);
an LED mounted on the PCB;
a light sensor mounted on the PCB;
an illumination lens for directing light at a first angle to the surface, with the light focused on a focal point below the surface, such that the diameter of a produced spot of light on the surface is more than 150% larger than a field of view (FOV) of the light sensor;
wherein the focal point is below the surface by a distance that is the same as the distance from the light sensor to the surface, within a range of plus 300% to minus 40%;
wherein the first angle is 25 degrees or less; and
an imaging lens for focusing light reflected at the first angle on the light sensor.
